The dream of Nikita Dhoundiyal, the wife of Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal, who was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, was finally fulfilled. She has become a lieutenant in the Indian Army after rigorous training at OTA, Chennai. After the passing out parade held at Officers Training Academy on Saturday, Lt Gen YK Joshi congratulated him by putting stars on his shoulder. Lieutenant Nikita passed the Women's Entry Scheme exam in Allahabad last year.
Major Vibhuti Dhoundiyal, a resident of Dehradun, was martyred while taking on the terrorists in Pulwama, Kashmir on 8 February 2019. After this, Nikita decided to serve the country following her husband's footsteps. Last year, she took training from the Officers Training Academy of Chennai after passing the Women Entry Scheme exam in Allahabad. On Saturday, after becoming the Lieutenant, Nikita said she will follow her martyr husband's footsteps to serve the country. If sources are to be believed, she will come to Uttarakhand's capital Dehradun once the situation in Corona returns to normal.
Major Vibhuti Dhoundiyal's family originally hails from Dhund village near the Badgers of Pauri Garhwal. Vibhuti's grandfather KN Dhoundiyal settled in Doon in 1952. Both Vibhuti's father and grandfather retired from the Air Force CDA office at Rajpur Road.
The 34-year-old Major Vibhuti, the youngest of three sisters, was married on April 19 last year. Wife Nikita Kaul Dhaundiyal used to work in a multinational company in Delhi. Father OP Dhoundiyal passed away in 2015 since then, mother Saroj Dhoundiyal has been was not well. His two sisters are married and the third one is a teacher at Doon International School.
