According to Joshimath SDM of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Lokpal Hemkund area comes under reserved forest area and it is part of Valley of Flowers National Park, so tourists can visit Lokpal Hemkund area with permission from Forest Department, but entry to Hemkund Gurudwara is not allowed. The administration clarified its stand that the tourists and local people who will be allowed by the Forest Department to visit Hemkund will not be stopped by the administration.
Sub-Collector Kumkum Joshi said that Lokpal Hemkund area is a reserved forest area and is part of the Valley of Flowers, so only the Forest Department will permit to go there. She said that those who get permission will be required to follow the Corona guideline. The Deputy Collector said that the tour of Gurudwara Hemkund has not been opened yet by the Hemkund Trust, so tourists visiting Lokpal Hemkund will not be able to go near Hemkund Gurdwara nor can touch the Gurudwara.
Our Ghangaria-based staff will allow any tourist or a local resident who wants to go to the Lokpal Hemkund area to see flowers in compliance with Corona. For this, I have spoken to my staff in Ghangaria. But the tourist going to this area will have to assure the forest department that they will not go near Gurudwara Hemkund said DFO NB Sharma.
