This time the festival of Diwali and Choti Diwali will be celebrated together. Usually, Chhoti Diwali is celebrated a day before Diwali i.e. on Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi and then the next day i.e. Diwali is celebrated on Kartik Krishna Amavasya. But this year, such a combination of both Chaturdashi and Amavasya has been made, due to which both these festivals will be celebrated on the same day i.e. on 24th October. Whereas Dhanteras will fall on 23 October this time.

Why are Choti Diwali and Badi Diwali on the same day this year?

This year it is because Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi Tithi starts at 6.04 pm on 23rd October and ends on 24th October at 5:28 pm. Then, from 5.28 pm on 24th, the Amavasya date is being started which will remain till 4:19 pm on the 25th of October. On October 25, in the evening i.e. before the Pradosh period, the new moon is ending. Therefore the festival of Diwali will not be celebrated on this day but will be celebrated a day before.
