But this time people are in big confused about the dates of all these three festivals. This year Diwali will be celebrated on 24 October. This time there is a special coincidence when Narak Chaturdashi i.e. Chhoti Diwali and Badi Diwali will be celebrated together.

There is a lot of confusion because this time big Diwali is falling on the next day of Dhanteras. This year Dhanteras is on 23 October. After this Chhoti and Badi Diwali on 24 October. This time the festival of Diwali and Choti Diwali will be celebrated together. Usually, Chhoti Diwali is celebrated a day before Diwali i.e. on Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi and then the next day i.e. Diwali is celebrated on Kartik Krishna Amavasya. But this year, such a combination of both Chaturdashi and Amavasya has been made, due to which both these festivals will be celebrated on the same day i.e. on 24th October. Whereas Dhanteras will fall on 23 October this time.

Why are Choti Diwali and Badi Diwali on the same day this year?

This year it is because Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi Tithi starts at 6.04 pm on 23rd October and ends on 24th October at 5:28 pm. Then, from 5.28 pm on 24th, the Amavasya date is being started which will remain till 4:19 pm on the 25th of October. On October 25, in the evening i.e. before the Pradosh period, the new moon is ending. Therefore the festival of Diwali will not be celebrated on this day but will be celebrated a day before.
