Vandana Kataria is the daughter of Uttarakhand, who has earned a name all over the world due to her hard work and struggle in the hockey game, and now she will be honored with the Padma Shri. On the eve of Republic Day, the Government of India has announced the Padma Awards 2022. In which the name of Vandana Kataria is included. It is a proud moment for Uttarakhand.

She is a resident of Roshanabad village in Haridwar, Uttrakhand it does not need any introduction. Vandana Katariya created history by scoring a hat-trick of goals in the match played against South Africa at the Tokyo Olympics. This hat-trick of Vandana got recorded in the golden pages. Last year she was awarded the Arjuna Award for winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Now Vandana is being awarded the Padma Shri award. Vandana Kataria's brother Saurabh Kataria told that there is an atmosphere of happiness in the family after the news of Vandana getting Padma Shri. They celebrated their happiness by distributing sweets in the neighborhood. They told that there was a conversation with Vandana through internet media in the afternoon, then Vandana informed about getting Padma Shri. There she is busy preparing for the World Cup. So the phone conversation could not take place. 

Vandana Kataria has also been made the brand ambassador of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao and the women empowerment campaign by the Uttarakhand government.

In November last year, President Ram Nath Kovind honored Vandana Kataria with the Arjuna Award at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

She also became the first Indian women hockey player to score a hat-trick of goals in an Olympic game. As she was a part of India's historic fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics and she has also been a part of India's gold medal win at the Asian Championship Trophy in 2016, Asia Cup in 2017, Asian Games bronze in 2014, and silver in 2018 among several other achievements. The double Olympian started her career playing for the Railway Sports Promotion Board and made it to the Indian Junior Women’s team in 2006.

She could not even buy hockey sticks and shoes

Vandana Kataria also went through that phase when she did not have money even to meet her small needs. She could not even buy hockey sticks and shoes. Vandana Kataria used to stay alone in the hostel when all the players went to their homes after the hostel's leave. According to Vandana, her coach Poonam Latha always helped her on this occasion.
