The state government, which is facing a bad financial condition, needs the help of the Center to renovate the primary and upper primary schools. A proposal to repair 2034 schools has been sent to the central government. If that gets approved from the Center, then this year the work of repairing the schools can be started.
The old buildings of primary and upper primary schools in the state require repair. Also, there is a lack of necessary facilities in the newly opened schools. The state government has prepared an action plan of 128 crores to improve the condition of schools. Under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, this action plan has been proposed to the Union Ministry of Education. On June 29, in the meeting of the Project Approval Board under the Union Ministry of Education in Delhi, the action plan of Uttarakhand will be brainstormed.
In this action plan, a proposal of Rs 34.63 crore has been prepared for 777 major repair works. Similarly, 19.81 crores for construction of 249 additional classrooms, 9.05 crores for construction of 203 boundary walls, 95 boys toilets and 51 girls toilets are proposed. A plan has been made to provide 69 ramps in school buildings, electrification of 35 schools and drinking water facilities in 15 schools for differently-abled students. Education Minister Arvind Pandey said that under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, the state is expected to get a huge amount in the form of assistance from the Center this year.
