Nearly two and a half years after the announcement of setting up a sports college for women in Udham Singh Nagar, the authorities have identified the land for it and a detailed project report has also been sent to the state government for its approval.
Sports College for Women, the first in Uttarakhand, is proposed to be built on 65 acres of land at Rajpura village in Kichha town of the district. The construction is expected to be completed in two years. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 20 crore.
The SDM of Kichha Kaushtubh Mishra said, “It was challenging to identify a piece of land large enough for the college. After a lot of research, we selected 65 acres of land at Prague Farm in Rajpura.
There apart from the sports college, the administration is also planning to build an industrial estate and a modern prison in the Prague farm area. The Sports College was announced by the then Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in January 2020. Later, when Pushkar Singh Dhami took over, he directed all the sub-divisional magistrates to identify the land for the project.
District Sports Officer Akhtar Ali said that the proposed college to be built at Rs 20 crore would be the first such college exclusively for women in the hill state. It will have accommodation for 300 players and they will be trained for sports like hockey, badminton, cricket, judo, and taekwondo. There the “Girls will be admitted to this college from class VI onwards. Admission will be given after physical trial and examination. Through this college, the state government aims to achieve more medals in national and international championships while empowering women.
