Sonia will decide on Leader of Opposition and State President
There was no consensus in the meeting of the Congress Legislature Party held at Gurdwara Rakabganj Road in Delhi on Monday night for the selection of the leader of the Congress Legislature Party
In Uttarakhand, the selection of the leader of the Congress Legislature Party has not only been suspended, but the post of state president is also in limbo. Due to the division of the MLAs into two camps, an agreement could not be reached in the meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in the War Room on Gurdwara Rakabganj Road in Delhi on Monday night. A group of MLAs has also intensified the campaign to replace the state president Pritam Singh. Congress President Sonia Gandhi was authorized to decide on the post of Leader of Opposition by unanimously passing a resolution of the Legislature Party meeting held in the presence of state in-charge Devendra Yadav.
Sonia Gandhi can also decide the state president. Now the decision is expected on Tuesday i.e. today. The camp within the Congress has intensified over the seat of the Leader of the Opposition, which fell vacant after the death of Dr. Indira Hridayesh on June 13. At present, the party seems to be divided between the camps of State Congress President Pritam Singh and former Chief Minister and Congress General Secretary Harish Rawat. With the exercise of selecting the Leader of the Opposition just a few months before the 2022 assembly elections, a camp in the party has intensified the campaign to change the state president. This has further complicated the issue of the selection of the Leader of the Opposition.
This group of Harish Rawat supporters is advocating the Brahmin-Thakur formula for the posts of Leader of Opposition and State President. Since there is no longer a Brahmin face in the Congress Legislature Party, there is a demand to hand over the post of state president to a Brahmin. For the last two days, the effort to choose the leader of the State Congress Legislature Party in Delhi could not be reached anywhere even on Monday. Throughout the day, several rounds of talks were held between senior party leaders and the state in-charge Devendra Yadav. Congress Legislature Party meeting was held at 8 pm on Monday.
In the meeting, the consensus for the name of the Leader of the Opposition has not been made. State Congress President Pritam Singh is in favor of handing over the post of Leader of Opposition to Deputy Leader of Opposition Karan Mahara. On the other hand, the names of party MLA from Haridwar district Mamta Rakesh and senior party MLA Govind Singh Kunjwal are also being discussed. The thing is that Karan Mahara is considered close to the Harish Rawat camp, but that camp is not supporting him in this matter.
Pritam is not in favor of becoming Leader of Opposition
Among the MLAs, Pritam Singh, Karan Mahra, Adesh Chauhan and Rajkumar were seen standing in one side while Govind Singh Kunjwal, Harish Dhami, Furkan Ahmed, Mamta Rakesh and Manoj Rawat were seen standing on the other side. MLA Qazi Nizamuddin is said to be neutral. However, as Leader of Opposition, Karan Mahra is said to be his choice as well. With the election of the Leader of the Opposition, the campaign to change the state Congress President has also been intensified by the other camp. In the event of the removal of the responsibility of the state president, it has been advocated to give the post of Leader of Opposition to Pritam Singh. However, Pritam Singh has refused to take the responsibility of Leader of Opposition just a few months before the elections and with only one assembly session remaining.
Pritam wants to decide the face of Brahmin himself
If sources are to be believed, a Brahmin face is being advocated for the post of state president, but a section of MLAs is in favor of handing over this responsibility to former Chief Minister Harish Rawat. Sources also say that Pritam Singh has insisted on taking his consent in deciding the Brahmin face in the event of his removal from the state president. As a Brahmin face, the name of former MLA Ganesh Godiyal is being taken as the state president.
The post of Punjab in-charge may be removed from Harish Rawat
If sources are to be believed, Harish Rawat can be relieved of the responsibility of Punjab Congress in-charge. This responsibility of his can be given to senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge. It is said that Harish Rawat himself is willing to leave the responsibility of the post of Punjab in charge. There is also talk of handing him the charge of the election steering committee in Uttarakhand in the 2022 assembly elections.
