Saung Dam project will get ready by taking a loan from AFD Bank of France
The government has prepared a proposal to take a loan from AFD Bank of France .The proposal has now been sent to the central government for approval
Talks seem to be progressing on the dream project of Saung Dam drinking water project of former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. In this project of Rs 1580 crore, the biggest bottleneck was the budget after removing the problem from forest and environment to rehabilitation and resettlement. That seems to be resolved now.
The government has prepared a proposal to take a loan from AFD Bank of France for this externally important project which has now been sent to the central government for approval. After the change of Chief Minister in the state, it was believed that this dream project of former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat may be in trouble, but now efforts have started at the government level to take the project forward. On behalf of the planning department of the government, the exercise of taking a loan from Agence Française de Development (AFD), France has been started. Under this, a proposal for a loan has been prepared. Which will now be sent to the central government.
RK Tiwari, Director General, Song Dam Drinking Water Project, told that the work of the project will be started after the loan is approved. The project has already got environmental clearance. About 275 families from the four villages under the project are to be rehabilitated and resettled. For this, a rehabilitation policy has been prepared.
It consists of three villages in Tehri district and one village in Dehradun district. Under the rehabilitation, a High-Level Committee (HPC) has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary at the government level to take administrative and financial decisions. Apart from this, the work of Part-II (Water Distribution System and Water Purification Equipment) of the DPR of the project is being done by Uttarakhand Drinking Water Corporation.
The project has been prepared keeping in mind the estimated population till the year 2053
With the completion of the Saung Dam drinking water project, 150 MLD gravity-based drinking water supply will be ensured to the estimated population of Dehradun city and its suburban areas by the year 2053. Apart from this, it will also help in energy production and the availability of water for irrigation will also boost agricultural production. The lake of Saung Dam will be about 3.5 km long and will be spread over an area of about 76 hectares. Whereas the height of the dam will be around 130.5 meters.
The work on the Saung Dam drinking water project is being done at a rapid pace. AFD is making a proposal at the government level and sending it to the Government of India for taking a loan from France. Once the funding is approved, the project will be visible on the ground said Mukesh Mohan, Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department.
