In Uttarakhand, the debate on the new leader and state president of the Congress Legislature Party is over, the ball is now completely in the party high command's court. A decision is likely to be taken by the party within two to three days. For the second consecutive day on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with former Chief Minister and National General Secretary Harish Rawat and State President Pritam Singh. During this, differences between the two came to the fore. Later, Rahul separately met National Secretary and MLA Qazi Nizamuddin, former state president Kishor Upadhyay, former national secretary Prakash Joshi. All three are members of the Pradesh Congress Coordination Committee.
Interview with three members of the committee
Yesterday, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi took charge to resolve the issue of Uttarakhand. The party leadership had summoned the members of the State Congress Coordination Committee in this matter as well as the leaders who are seen as the contenders for the post of state president. On Monday, along with Rahul Gandhi, the party's National General Secretary Organization KC Venugopal had a meeting with Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh as well as other leaders. On Tuesday, Rahul also met the remaining three members of the committee.
Brahmin face is an issue
First, in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi called Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh together for a meeting. Both had a meeting with Rahul for about one and a half hours. According to sources, the tussle and differences between the two leaders continued in the meeting. Dissatisfaction with each other's role was also reflected in front of Rahul. In meeting with other members of the coordination committee, Rahul Gandhi took feedback from the point of view of the 2022 elections, the condition of the party, regional and caste balance in the state. The post of Leader of Opposition is vacant due to the death of Dr. Indira Hridayesh.
In Indira, the Congress has lost a strong face as a Brahmin leader in the Kumaon. It was told that Rajya Sabha member Pradeep Tamta could not meet on Tuesday as he could not reach Delhi. The feedback exercise, which started at 10 am at AICC Headquarters Delhi, ended at around 2 pm.
Brainstorming on two options
According to sources, during the 2022 assembly elections, who will be in command of the post of Leader of Opposition and on whose head the state president will be crowned will be decided in two-three days. Harish Rawat has to be entrusted with the responsibility of the election steering committee in the state. In view of this, two options are being considered mainly to establish a political equation in the state. In the event of removing Pritam Singh from the post of state president, the claim of former MLA from Garhwal region Ganesh Godiyal, former state president Kishor Upadhyay, former minister Navprabhat as Brahmin leader on the post of state president can be considered.
Joshi and Kapri are also contenders
At the same time, names of former National Secretary of Congress Prakash Joshi and former President of State Youth Congress Bhuvan Kapri are also doing the rounds from Kumaon. Rahul has met Navprabhat, Ganesh Godiyal and Bhuvan Kapri three. The party leadership is also considering another formula. In this, if Pritam Singh remains the state president, the working president can be nominated from Garhwal and Kumaon regions. The Leader of the Opposition could be Karan Mahra
