All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi on Tuesday announced that it will start OPD services from June 18 in a phased manner amid COVID-19. AIIMS Delhi said that OPD registration will be done only for those patients who have booked prior online/telephonic appointments. AIIMS Delhi further said that the decision to allow walk-in registration will be taken later after reviewing the COVID-19 situation. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, AIIMS closed its OPD facilities on March 24, 2020, for new and follow-up patients as well.
This was done for the deputation of resources in AIIMS for the management of the epidemic. However, doctors were giving consultations through telemedicine and only emergency cases were being taken up. Depending on the COVID-19 situation, OPD services were partially resumed or stopped last year.
The number of patients with corona infection in AIIMS has also reduced. In such a situation, OPD service and routine surgery is being started in AIIMS in a phased manner. Right now, surgery is being done in an emergency for serious patients.
Amid rising coronavirus infections, AIIMS Delhi closed its physical OPD services from April 22 to contain the spread of the virus and augment resources to treat COVID-19 patients. After five weeks of strict lockdown, Delhi has completely reopened shops and malls and allowed 50% seating in restaurants.
