Kolkata Police is today interrogating Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty in the inflammatory speech case. This inquiry is going virtual. Mithun Chakraborty is accused of using filthy and unconstitutional language against Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

What are the allegations against Mithun?


During the Bengal Assembly elections, an FIR was lodged against Mithun Chakraborty at the Maniktalla police station in the metropolis, accusing him of making inflammatory speeches. The FIR lodged at the Maniktala police station claimed that Chakraborty, at a rally organized after joining the BJP on March 7, had chanted "marbo ekhne lassh porbe shoshane" (If I kill you, the corpse will fall in the crematorium) and "ek chobole chabi" ( You will be imprisoned in the picture by a bite of a snake) said the dialogue, which led to post-election violence in the state.

Mithun had reached the High Court, the court had ordered to join the inquiry

A month after the election results were announced, Mithun Chakraborty had filed a petition against the said FIR in the Calcutta High Court, requesting that the FIR be quashed.

After this, the Calcutta High Court directed Mithun Chakraborty to give his e-mail address to the state. So that he can join the interrogation through video conference in connection with the complaint lodged for allegedly inciting violence. While hearing the actor's plea, the court had also directed the investigating officer to give reasonable time to Mithun Chakraborty to appear through video conference.

Chakraborty, in the petition filed in the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR, said that he had only spoken dialogues from his films.
