Indira Hridyesh Political Story: Indira played a big role in forming the Bahuguna government in 2012

Late Congress leader Indira Hadyesh always played the role of troubleshooter for the organization. Due to her political understanding and cleverness, in the year 2012, she played an important role in forming the Bahuguna government. To bring the government to a majority, Indira took Harish Chandra Durgapal, an independent winner from the Lalkuan assembly, to Delhi overnight by helicopter and introduced him to Congress national president Sonia Gandhi. Only after that, the Congress government was formed.

In the 2012 elections in Uttarakhand, Congress won 32 seats and BJP 31 seats. While three candidates from BSP, one from UKD and three as independents won. To form the government, the support of independents, as well as BSP and UKD legislators, was desperately needed. In such a situation, many big leaders of Congress and BJP were trying to contact Harish Chandra Durgapal, who won independent from the lone Lalkuan assembly from Kumaon Mandal, to form the government.

But before anyone could reach him, Indira Hadyesh not only convinced Durgapal to support the Congress but took her overnight to Sonia's court. Apart from this, the BSP, UKD and independent MLAs who won from Garhwal Mandal were also requested to support the Congress over the phone and assured them of getting a proper place in the government. Due to her tireless efforts, the Congress government was formed in the state with an absolute majority. After which she has also made a special contribution in forming the Harish Rawat government in February 2014.

Important role played during President's rule

President's rule was imposed in Uttarakhand on 27 March 2016. Indira Hadyesh, who was Parliamentary Affairs Minister at that time, played an important role in saving the government by lobbying in the High Court from her level. This is the reason that in just 26 days i.e. on April 21, the High Court removed the President's rule from the state and the Congress government was restored.
