The Indian academy (IMA) Dehradun celebrated its 89th Raising Day on Friday.
On this occasion, Commandant of IMA, Lt Gen Harinder Singh,, Commandant IMA, conveyed his appreciation to the IMA fraternity for their dedication and contribution towards transforming the academy into a world class military institution it is today.
He said that the IMA had rendered outstanding service to Nation by nurturing thousands of well trained, all rounded officers. He urged the service and civilian employees to work with the same zeal and synergy to bring even greater laurels to the academy.
The IMA came into existence on October 1 in the year 1932. In the last 88 years, the IMA has grown in its training capacity from 40 Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) to 1650 GCs. A total of 63,381 GCs have passed out from the proud portals of the academy as officers till date. It includes 2656 Foreign Gentlemen Cadets from 34 Friendly Foreign countries.
The Academy features a rich history and its Alumni have excelled all spheres of military and sports activities. So far 889 brave alumni have made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. A communiqué from the IMA said “On this big day , all members of the staff, Gentlemen Cadets, Service and civilian employees rededicated themselves to uphold the fantastic legacy of this great institution, ‘Veerta aur Vivek.’’
