The High Court, while hearing a public interest litigation filed against corruption in the Building and Other Construction Welfare Board (Construction Welfare Board) Uttarakhand, has asked the state government to file a reply within four weeks. The matter was heard in a division bench of Chief Justice Justice RS Chauhan and Alok Verma.
Khurshid Ahmed, a resident of Kashipur, has filed a public interest litigation in this matter. It states that in the year 2020, advertisements were given in various newspapers for providing tool kits, sewing machines and cycles to the workers in the Building and Construction Welfare Board. There were financial irregularities on the part of the officers of the Board in purchasing these. When this complaint was made to the administration and the Governor, the board was dissolved in October 2020.
Shamsher Singh Satyal has been appointed as the new chairman of the board. When it was investigated by the chairman, the scam was confirmed. In the said case, an inquiry was also conducted by the Labor Commissioner Uttarakhand in which the names of big leaders and officials came out. The government has appointed a new investigating officer but a fair investigation is not being conducted and people are being saved. The petitioner has demanded the formation of a high-level committee and a fair investigation.
