Devotees will reach Siddhpeeth Surkanda Devi by ropeway in Navratri

There the trial of the ropeway being installed in the Siddhpeeth Surkanda Devi temple has been successful. After waiting for a few more days, now the devotees unable to climb the one and a half km climb will be able to reach the temple by ropeway in less than 10 minutes to see the goddess Surkanda Devi. If the weather is fine this winter, all 16 trolleys will be installed before February. Due to which the devotees of Goddess Surkanda Devi will reach the temple by ropeway on Chaitra Navratri.

The temple of Maa Surkanda Devi is situated on Chamba-Mussoorie road at an altitude of 2750 meters. To reach the temple, their devotees have to climb up 1.5 km from Kaddukhal, due to which it takes one to one and a half hours for the disabled devotees to reach the temple. Due to which the demand to connect the temple with the ropeway was being made for a long time. On the demand of the devotees, in the year 2016, the Tourism Department had decided to build the ropeway in Public-Private Partnership (PPP). After a long wait, now the civil and engineering work of the ropeway has been completed.

Cabin load testing has been started. After a few days of testing, the work of installing six more trolleys will be started soon. A total of 16 trolleys are proposed to be installed in the ropeway being built at a cost of 32 crores. With the construction of a ropeway, where devotees will be able to get rid of one and a half km of climbing while completing the 522-meter journey from the ropeway in just five to ten minutes, there they will be able to reach the temple. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, in charge of KR Anand Infra Project Company, which is preparing the ropeway in a private-public partnership, said that due to the increasing winter outbreak since November, work is not being done for the whole day.

If it snowed this winter, then the work may get stretched till February. Former Tourism Minister Dinesh Dhanai said that the ropeway scheme in the mountain can make the journey easier. The construction of the Surkanda Devi ropeway will facilitate the devotees and tourism development will happen in the area along with pilgrimage. Tourism officer SS Yadav said that it is expected that the ropeway will be fully started before the month of February.
