Devasthanam Board: Dham Purohits were furious over the statement of the Tourism Minister

The statement of Uttarakhand Tourism and Culture Minister Satpal Maharaj for not reconsidering the Devasthanam Board has created anger among the pilgrimage priests. In Gangotri Dham, the pilgrim priests demonstrated against the government and burnt effigies. In Chamoli also, the pilgrim priests protested against the tourism minister and raised slogans. On the other hand, in Yamunotri Dham, the pilgrimage priests have sent a letter to the CM through the administration, condemning the statement of the Tourism Minister.

Teerth purohit Deepak Semwal, Rakesh Semwal and Rajesh Semwal said that the CM had talked about reconsidering the Devasthanam board but now the minister is saying that it will not be reconsidered.

The intention of the tourism minister is not right about the board. The pilgrim priests warned that if the board was not dissolved immediately, then the pilgrim priests of the four Dhams in Uttarakhand would make a furious agitation. The responsibility of the agitation lies with the government. They said that it is a matter of misfortune for the government that for the first time an effigy has been burnt in any Dham.

This is not a good sign for the government. Satpal Maharaj is engaged in the propagation of religion but today they are supporting Devasthanam Board. He demanded the CM to sack the tourism minister.

Demand for implementation of earlier arrangements

Dham Purohits are protesting against setting up the Char Dham Devasthanam Board for long. They are saying it is against the culture and traditions of the Dhams. They asked the government to immediately dissolve the Devasthanam Board and implement the earlier arrangements.

This is the case

After assuming the chair, Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat had announced that the Devasthanam Board would be reconsidered. After CM’s statement Dham Purohits, who were opposing the Devasthanam Board, breathed a sigh of relief. Since then, there were constant hopes of a decision in this direction but on Monday, Tourism and Culture Minister Satpal Maharaj had told the media that the Devasthanam Board would not be reconsidered. After this statement, the voices of protest have started rising again.
