Grasslands being prepared by uprooting Lantana plants
Lantana plants, which have grown in most areas of Rajaji Tiger Reserve, have increased the problems for the wildlife of the Tiger Reserve as well as for the officials. Due to the abundance of Latana plants, the natural lifestyle of wildlife is being affected. Simultaneously, wildlife is entering the populated area because of this.
Incidents of human-wildlife conflict are also increased of late. For this, the Tiger Reserve Administration has started a campaign. Director of Rajaji Tiger Reserve DK Singh said that a program is being run for the eradication of Lantana grass. After cutting the lantana grass with the help of employees, those areas are being plowed with the tractors. After removing the lantana, another grass of some good species will be planted there so that the areas affected by Lantana can be developed again.
Under Project Tiger, being operated on the instructions of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, a program is being run continuously for the eradication of Lantana in Rajaji Tiger Reserve and Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve. With the uprooting of Lantana, a new grass cutting-edge species will be planted there.
