Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Iqbal Mehmood on Sunday made a controversial statement regarding the preparation of the draft population control by the Law Commission of UP, alleging that it is a conspiracy to attack Muslims under the guise of law and not Muslims, but the population is increasing because of Dalits and Adivasis.
He alleged, "Actually it is an attack on Muslims in the guise of population. If the people of BJP understand that only the number of Muslims is increasing in the country, then this law should have come in the Parliament so that it would be applicable in the whole country.
Why is it being brought in Uttar Pradesh only? SP MLA from Sambhal seat said, "Most population is increasing with Dalits and Adivasis, not with Muslims. Muslims have now understood that there should not be more than two-three children.
He said that the result of this law will also be similar to that of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Similarly, in Assam, the impact of NRC was less on Muslims and more on non-Muslims.
The MLA said that the population law will also face the same fate. It is not understood that the Yogi government has only seven months' tenure left, so why is the population law being talked about?
It is worth mentioning that to curb the growing population of Uttar Pradesh, the Law Commission of the state is considering a draft of a law.
According to the chairman of the commission, Aditya Nath Mittal, the commission has started work on the proposal of the law to curb the population growth of the state. This draft will be prepared and handed over to the state government within two months.
