Given the high-quality wool production in Uttarakhand, the central government will support the state government to procure 500 Merino sheep every year. Union Animal Husbandry Minister Giriraj Singh said this during his meeting with Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat. During this, the Chief Minister requested to approve a scheme costing Rs 3.40 crore for the conservation and promotion of Gir cows at Kalsi Farm in Dehradun district under Rashtriya Gokul Mission. The Chief Minister also invited the Union Animal Husbandry Minister to inaugurate the Center of Excellence, Embryo Transplantation Laboratory established at Kalsi.


On Tuesday, Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat met Union Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Minister Giriraj Singh in Delhi. He said that under the National Livestock Mission, 240 marina sheep were received by the state with the help of the Centre. They were kept in the state breeding farm Kopadhar and are getting encouraging results. Given this, importing 500 additional sheep can support the annual demand of the Indian textile industry by producing about 500 metric tonnes of fine wool by the year 2024.

In such a situation, the conditions of the tender should be relaxed so that the tender process can be completed. The Chief Minister said that a plan of 44.13 crores has been prepared with the help of NCDC for the modernization of the dairy of the Nainital Milk Union under the National Dairy Development Scheme. This will employ about 30 thousand milk producers at the local level and a better milk price will be given. He also requested the Union Minister to approve it. The Union Animal Husbandry Minister assured to take appropriate steps on all the schemes.
