Today is birthday anniversary of Vikram Batra who died in the Kargil war. Born on September 9, 1974, in Ghuggar village near Palampur in Himachal Pradesh. On July 26, 1999 India won Kargil war against Pakistan. The huge success was not earned without the sacrifices of many young soldiers while defending the nation. Vikram Batra, one of the brave soilder  martyred in the war.

He was brilliant at studies, sports and represented his school at the national level during the parliamentary competition. He was the best NCC cadet of north India, also a green belt holder in karate and played table tennis at national level.

Captain Batra, a soldier in the 13th battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, was one of the bravest souls of India  and his contribution in the 1999 Kargil War is commendable. He started  preparing for Combined Defense Services (CDS) examination after completing his Bachelor’s degree in 1995. He was deep patriotic and keen to join the Army. In 1996, he cleared CDS examination and joined the Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned as a lieutenant. His first posting was in the town of Sapore in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Before Kargil war in 1991, Vikram was enjoying holiday when he was asked to come back. During the war Captain Batra was promoted to the rank of Captain. On July 7, 1999 was the last day for him to serve the country with huge patriotic emotions.

In 1999, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra,  India's highest and most prestigious award for his martyrdom during the Kargil War in 1999. A movie Shershaah traces the life journey of PVC awardee and Army Captain Vikram Batra starring  Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani. The movie is directed by Vishnu Varadhan and produced by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment. 

The film stars Sidharth Malhotra as Captain Vikram Batra, Kiara Advani as Dimple Cheema (his girlfriend), Shiv Pandit, Raj Arjun, Pranay Pachauri, Himanshu Ashok Malhotra, Nikitin Dheer, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, Shataf Figar and Pawan Chopra in pivotal roles.

Sidharth Malhotra recalls Vikram Batra on his birthday

The actor Sidharth Malhotra shared a heartfelt post on his birthday on the twitter handle, He writes: “Dear Shah Shah, they say that those who touch our lives will stay in our hearts forever. And Captain Vikram Batra, you are me with your courage, wisdom, charm and love for the country. Very touched on our lives. You will stay in our hearts forever … in your beloved memory, Jai Hind”.
