Due to Covid-19 infection, there will be no Kanwar Yatra this year also. The Uttarakhand government has banned the Kanwar Yatra because of the possibility of a third wave. Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar has requested the Kanwariyas coming from the neighboring states not to enter any city of Uttarakhand by taking Kanwar. He said that the entry of Kanwariyas has been banned in Haridwar. Kumar said that the UP-Uttarakhand border will be sealed in the month of Sawan. After the inter-state meeting of police departments on Tuesday, DGP Ashok Kumar informed that taking lessons from Haridwar Kumbh, the Uttarakhand government has banned the Kanwar Yatra.
He warned that even after the ban, a case would be registered against the pilgrims traveling with Kanwar under the Epidemic Act. He said that such devotees would be dealt with strictly by the police. It is known that due to the concession given during the Kumbh Mela, the government has to face a heavy backlash therefore, the government has banned the Kanwar Yatra as a precautionary measure. The DGP has appealed to all Shiva devotees to offer water only in their nearby Shivalayas. Protect yourself from corona infection and also take full care of the safety of yourselves others. Police officers from states like Punjab, UP, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, etc were present in the meeting.
