Amitabh Bachchan has finished his contract with a pan masala brand and he has also returned the fees. He has said that he was not aware that this advertisement falls under the category of 'surrogate advertisement'. Amitabh Bachchan has taken this step after a national anti-tobacco organization recently appealed to him to dissociate himself from the advertisement. His fans had also expressed displeasure over Amitabh's recent advertisement of Pan Masala.

An official statement has been issued that Amitabh has terminated his contract with the pan masala brand 'Kamla Pasand'. “Kamla Pasand…. A few days after the advertisement aired, Mr. Bachchan contacted the brand and walked out of the advertisement last week itself,” the statement said. The brand was informed that when Amitabh got associated with the brand, he was not aware that the advertisement came under the purview of 'surrogate advertisement'.

The statement further said, “Mr. Bachchan has terminated his contract with the brand and the same has been communicated to him. Money received for promotion has also been returned.

Earlier, a letter was written to Amitabh Bachchan and National Tobacco Elimination Organization President Sharad Salkar, in which it was said that pan masala has a bad effect on the health of the people. The letter also said that since Amitabh Bachchan is the government ambassador for Pulse Polio, he should recuse himself from the advertisement of pan masala.

In the letter, they read, “As an oncologist and member of an NGO working in the field of tobacco cessation, I am saddened and against such advertisements. Various influential and famous Bollywood actors like Shahrukh Khan, Ajay Devgan, Ranveer Singh, and Hrithik Roshan have increased the use of tobacco among students.

When Amitabh Bachchan's pan masala advertisement aired, many people raised objections. Amitabh had also responded to his criticism through social media. Responding to a fan, Amitabh wrote, 'Manywar, I am apologetic! If someone is doing good in any business, then one should not think that why we are associated with him. Yes, if there is a business then we also have to think about our business in that. Now you feel that I should not have done this but by doing this… yes I also get money.
