Aamir Khan and Kiran have separated after a journey of 15 years. Both have given information about their divorce by issuing a joint statement. Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao were married in 2005. They also have a son, Azad, who was born through surrogacy. Kiran Rao met Aamir Khan while filming Ashutosh Gowariker's film “Lagaan”. Kiran Rao was the assistant director in the film 'Lagaan'. This was Aamir Khan's second marriage. Earlier, Aamir Khan was married to Reema Dutta and after 15 years with her, he got divorced. He has a son and daughter from his first marriage.
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao said in a joint statement, "In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared the experiences, joy and laughter of a lifetime and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love." Now we would like to start a new chapter in our life, no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family to each other. We started a planned separation a while back, and now feel comfortable formalizing the arrangement, sharing our lives as one extended family despite living apart. We are dedicated parents of our son Azad, whom we will raise together. We will also continue to collaborate on films, Paani Foundation and other projects that we feel passionate about. Many thanks to our families and friends for their continued support and understanding of this development in our relationship without whom we would not have been so safe to take this step. We look forward to the best wishes and blessings from our well-wishers and hope that - like us - you will not see this divorce as the end but as the beginning of a new journey.
